What is Coaching?
What does a coach do?
A coach partners with you to identify where you are, where you want to be, and what gaps stand in your way. Do you struggle with body image and self-love? Are you looking for a romantic partner to sweep you off your feet? Do you want to quit your job to follow your passion project? Are you hoping to just wake up feeling happy and motivated every day? Coaching can address all of these questions and more. As your coach, I will listen to you, reflect things back to you, create new awareness around how you're being, and encourage you to jump outside of your comfort zone.
How do I know if I need a coach?
If you're even asking yourself this question, the answer is probably: you do! The truth is, everyone can benefit exponentially from a coach. Imagine you're at Sunday brunch with your girlfriends. You're sipping coffee and mimosas, and probably gossiping and complaining or listening to gossip and complaints: about work, your significant other, your kids, your lack of time, your boss, body image, the list goes on. We all have these friends and these conversations, and there's nothing wrong with that! But when you're complaining and reporting about your life, are these friends going to ask you the tough questions that really propel you forward? They're your friends: they're in the weeds with you, agreeing at how awful your coworker sounds or nodding at how you haven't made it to the gym in 3 weeks because of your schedule. As your life coach, I am always your friend, but I'm more than that. You're hiring me to stand for your greatness, ask you the tough questions, sometimes even hold your feet to the fire so that you can live your best life.
What kind of people have a life coach?
Coaching is really for people who are: happy, sad, scared, stuck, curious, creative, intellectual, ambitious, goal-setting people. So... all people! Are you trying to make a decision about career or a relationship? Are you feeling stuck and want someone to give you all the answers? Well HOLD UP because coaching isn't about giving answers (wait what? what am I hiring you for?). Coaching is based on the premise that you are your own expert and you have all the answers within you; it's not about me giving you advice or telling you the "right" answer or way of doing things. People who hire life coaches are ready to take their lives into their own hands and do the cool, exciting, scary, unknown and new things that will enrich their lives.
How is coaching different than therapy?
Coaching and therapy can both deliver amazing results, but there are distinct differences to these professions. Coaching is forward-looking: we view our clients as completely whole and wonderful exactly as they are, and push them forward to where they want to go. Coaching asks the questions "what do you want to create?" and "what is possible?" Therapy looks behind to see how a patient got to where they are today, and asks the question "what problem needs to be fixed so I can be made whole?"
Can I have a coach and a therapist?
Yes, and it's best if both coach and therapist are aware of the other relationship. If you are working through something with a therapist and it's preventing you from moving forward in your life, it may be better to focus on addressing that before starting a coaching relationship.
How do sessions work?
Sessions take place by phone, Skype, or FaceTime, depending on where you live in the world and what service works best for you. First, you'll apply for a free consultation. From there, we'll schedule an initial call to get to know each other and get a sense of what you want to get out of coaching and if we're the right fit. You invest in the right coaching package for you, and you're sent a contract and welcome packet. We have weekly sessions where you come prepared to challenge yourself, take on practices during the week, and live your fullest life!
